Bad news : In the heart of Japan Disaster 2011

Japan was struck by natural disaster that no one could ever be prepared for. Earthquake, Tsunami and now..fear of radiation fallout. On Friday March 11, 2011 the country was hit by two of the worst natural disasters (earthquake and subsequent tsunami) in its history. The strength of the 8,9 magnitude quake, was 50 times the design capacity of the nuclear plant, and resulted in damaging its cooling systems.

The magnitude-8.9 offshore quake struck at 2:46 p.m. local time and was the biggest to hit Japan since record-keeping began in the late 1800s. he quake shook dozens of cities and villages along a 2,100km stretch of coast and tall buildings swayed in Tokyo, hundreds of miles from the epicenter. Minutes later, the earthquake unleashed a 7 meter  tsunami along the northeastern coast of Japan near the coastal city of Sendai in Miyagi prefecture. The quake was followed for hours by aftershocks.

Four of the Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant have been damaged by hydrogen explosions since Sunday, releasing radioactive isotopes into the air. And though the level of radioactivity remains dangerous, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported today (Tuesday) that they have been decreasing at the site since this morning.

Tens of thousands of residents within a 20 km radius of the plants have been evacuated, and all non-critical staff have been evacuated. Residents within a 30 km radius have been urged to stay indoors. To protect citizens from the effects of exposure to radioactivity, 230 000 units of stable iodine have been distributed to the evacuation centres.

Tokyo was brought to a near standstill. Tens of thousands of people were stranded with the rail network down, and the streets were jammed with cars, buses and trucks trying to get out of the city.
The city set up 33 shelters in city hall, on university campuses and in government offices, but many planned to spend the night at 24-hour cafes, hotels and offices.

My heart goes to the victims of Japan. Semoga semua umat Islam dan rakyat Malaysia yang berada di Jepun selamat. In these time of crisis we can only pray for the best from the worse....
